Stellar and Galactic Fireworks in Cepheus
NGC 6946 and 6939, a very cool galaxy and open star cluster combo in Cepheus. NGC 6946 is appropriately called the Fireworks Galaxy due to its very active H-II regions and overall color, combined with the unique-looking spiral structure.
With 15 minute subexposures (totaling more than 9 hours) taken from the darkest skies in California, several background galaxies and dust/nebulosity can be seen in the image.
